New Jersey's Secret Weapon — The Manhattan Skyline
Here is something most couples don't realise: the best views of the New York City skyline are not from Manhattan. They are from New Jersey. Liberty State Park, Hoboken Waterfront, the Hudson Palisades, the Alpine Lookout at Rockefeller Lookout — these are genuinely extraordinary backdrops for an elopement ceremony, and most of them are completely free to access.
Beyond the skyline views, New Jersey has the Jersey Shore, rolling state parks, colonial-era towns, waterfalls, and hidden lookouts that most people never find. It is a far more beautiful state than its reputation suggests — and it is a genuinely brilliant place to get married.
Our I Do Drive Thru USA officiants come to wherever you are in New Jersey — any location, any day of the week, from $500.
Where We Will Marry You in New Jersey
These are our most popular ceremony spots — but as always, if you have somewhere else in mind, just tell us.
Manhattan Skyline Views
The Statue of Liberty on one side, Lower Manhattan on the other. One of the most extraordinary free ceremony locations on the East Coast. The restored Central Railroad terminal provides dramatic architectural backdrop. Sunrise here is spectacular.
The full Manhattan midtown skyline directly across the Hudson — the Empire State Building, the Chrysler, the whole iconic stretch. Walkable, accessible, and free. Golden hour here is unbeatable.
High above the Hudson River on the Palisades cliffs. The entire Manhattan skyline spread out below you from an elevation most people never experience. Utterly breathtaking and genuinely unlike anything you can find on the Manhattan side.
The lookout where George Washington watched the British move across the plains below. Extraordinary panoramic views across the state. A ceremony here has genuine historical weight to it — and the views are exceptional.
Jersey Shore & Nature
Asbury Park, Spring Lake, Cape May, Sandy Hook — the Jersey Shore has some of the most beautiful beaches on the East Coast. Cape May in particular is extraordinary — Victorian architecture, wide beaches, and genuinely romantic atmosphere year round.
One of the finest panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline from a park setting. High above Essex County with wide open views. Free to access, easy to reach, and genuinely stunning at sunrise or golden hour.
Formal gardens, duck pond, and wide open green space in Somerset County. Beautiful in every season — especially spring and autumn. A gentler, more intimate alternative to the big skyline spots.
No permit, no travel, total privacy. Your officiant comes to your door. A backyard ceremony in New Jersey with just the two of you and a few people you love is genuinely one of the most meaningful ways to get married.
How to Get Married in New Jersey — The Licence Process
New Jersey has its own marriage licence process, slightly different from New York. Here is everything you need to know:
Where: Your local municipal clerk — any town or city in New Jersey where either partner lives, or where you will be married
Cost: Varies by municipality — typically $28 to $80
Waiting period: 72 hours (3 days) after the licence is issued before you can have your ceremony
Valid for: 30 days from issue date
ID required: Valid government-issued photo ID — a foreign passport is accepted
Both partners: Must apply together in person
Tourists: If neither partner lives in New Jersey, apply for the licence in the municipality where the ceremony will take place
If you are visiting the area and want to minimise planning, you can get your marriage licence in New York City ($35, 24-hour wait) and have your ceremony in New Jersey with our officiant — as long as both partners are physically in New York when applying. A New York marriage licence is valid for ceremonies held in New York State only, so this only works if your ceremony is in New York. We will advise you on the best option for your situation when you book.
How It Works
Book your I Do Drive Thru USA officiant first. Tell us where in New Jersey you want to get married and we will advise on the best municipal clerk for your licence, any permit requirements for your location, and the ideal timing for your ceremony.
Both partners visit your local municipal clerk together with valid photo ID. The licence costs vary by municipality. After it is issued you must wait 72 hours before your ceremony. Your licence is valid for 30 days.
Your I Do Drive Thru USA officiant meets you at your chosen location. The ceremony takes 2-7 minutes. You sign the licence. You are legally married in New Jersey. Your official marriage certificate is filed with the municipality and mailed to you.
