Visiting NYC? You Can Get Married Here.

Every year thousands of tourists and international couples get legally married in New York City. You do not need to be American. You do not need a US address. All you need is a valid passport, $35, and 24 hours.

For tourists and international couples

No US citizenship or residency required. Marry on a tourist visa or ESTA — completely legal.

Your passport is all the ID you need. No additional documentation required for most couples.

No one-month wait. Unlike Australian law (which requires a NOIM 28 days ahead), New York only needs 24 hours.

One witness only. Your photographer can be your witness — no need to bring anyone else.

Recognised back home. A New York marriage is valid in Australia, the UK, Canada, Europe, and most of the world.

We were born in Australia and we operate in New York. We understand exactly what international couples need — the paperwork, the apostille, the timeline around your trip. We have done this many times.

Where We Will Marry You in NYC

The entire city is your venue. Here are our most popular ceremony locations — but if you have somewhere else in mind, just ask.

🏛️ NY Public Library Steps

How It Works — 3 Simple Steps

1
Get your NYC marriage licence ($35)

Visit the NYC City Clerk at 141 Worth Street, Manhattan, or book online via Project Cupid at cityclerk.nyc.gov. Both partners attend together with valid photo ID — a foreign passport is accepted. Takes about 30 minutes. You leave with your licence in hand.

2
Wait 24 hours

New York law requires a 24-hour wait after your licence is issued. Use the time to explore the city, have a pre-wedding dinner, and get excited. Your licence is valid for 60 days from this point.

3
Get married — anywhere you choose

Your I Do Drive Thru USA officiant meets you at your chosen location. The ceremony takes 2-7 minutes. You sign the licence. You are legally married in New York City. Your certificate is mailed within 6-8 weeks — or collect it in person before you leave.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can tourists get married in New York City?

Yes — completely legally. There is no US citizenship or residency requirement. Anyone visiting on a tourist visa, ESTA, or any valid status can get a marriage licence and have a fully legal ceremony with a registered NYC officiant.

Do I have to get married at City Hall in NYC?

No. City Hall is only where you get your marriage licence. Once you have your licence and waited 24 hours, you can legally marry anywhere in New York City with a registered private officiant — Central Park, DUMBO, a rooftop, your hotel, or anywhere else you choose.

Can you get married in NYC on a weekend?

Yes — with a private officiant. The NYC Marriage Bureau is weekday-only (Mon-Fri, 8:30am-3:45pm). I Do Drive Thru USA is available any day of the week including Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays, at any time of day.

How much does it cost to elope in NYC?

Your marriage licence costs $35 from the NYC City Clerk. I Do Drive Thru USA officiant packages start from $500. Add a photographer from $500. Most park and public locations are free for small ceremonies. A complete elopement with officiant and photographer starts from $1,000.

How long does it take to get married in NYC?

Minimum two days. Day 1: get your marriage licence from the NYC City Clerk (30-60 minutes, $35). Day 2 after the mandatory 24-hour wait: have your 2-7 minute ceremony at your chosen location.

Will my New York marriage be recognised in Australia?

Yes, fully. A marriage legally performed in New York State is recognised in Australia under the Marriage Act 1961. You do not need to re-marry at home. An apostille ($10) may be needed for official Australian use — we will guide you through it.

How many witnesses do you need to get married in NYC?

Just one — over 18 with valid ID. Your photographer can serve as your witness. If you are eloping as just the two of you, we can arrange a witness. You do not need to bring anyone else.

Can you elope in Central Park NYC?

Yes. For groups under 20 people, most Central Park locations require no permit at all. A $25 Central Park Conservancy permit is required for reserved specific spots, applied 21+ days ahead. We advise on permit requirements for all locations when you book.
